How to Track Pet Sleep Without a Collar

A practical manual logging guide with complete-day markers, corrections and private backups.

Start with observation

Tap Fell asleep when you observe sleep and Woke up when the pet wakes. Stillness can be relaxed wakefulness. Timers continue after closing the page because their start times are saved, but they cannot detect waking.

Correct missed taps

Use Logs to change start or end times. Sleep intervals for the same pet cannot overlap; different pets can sleep at the same time. Split a stretch around a known awake period. An awakenings count does not automatically subtract awake time.

Handle midnight and unknown hours

Sessions crossing midnight are split into the appropriate local calendar days. Your browser’s current time zone is used. Reports record that time zone; travelling can change the grouping. Unobserved periods remain unknown.

Build comparable history

Mark past days complete only after checking that all sleep was recorded. Averages use complete days only. The tracker compares recent complete days against earlier complete days; a shift is a discussion prompt, not a diagnosis.

Keep a recoverable copy

Pet data is stored in IndexedDB on this browser, without an account or cloud sync. Export a JSON backup regularly. Restore validates the file and replaces pet records only after confirmation. CSV and PDF are reports, not restore files.

Educational guidance, not a diagnosis. Stillness is not always sleep. Missing observations are not zero sleep.
